About Alcoholic Detox
An alcoholic detox serves the purpose of safely, medically stabilizing a persons alcohol withdrawal.
Alcohol detox is a first step, but it is not alcoholism treatment.
When your family has left or is threatening to leave, it is surely time for an alcoholic detox. Other reasons can warn you of impending danger, such as losing a job consistently due to being under the influence of alcohol. The best remedy for this situation is to enter a clinic. Research the best clinics in your area.
Attempting to detoxify someone at home can be dangerous. There needs to be an assessment by medical personnel as to the strength of the addiction. A strong addiction will have more severe withdrawal symptoms. These cannot be handled by laymen at home. Headaches, sweating and vomiting can be handled at home. When the withdrawal symptoms include seizures, which can be fatal, you will be glad that a clinic was contacted. Hallucinations can be dangerous, and better handled by professionals.
When first entering a clinic, which should have twenty four hours of admittance, the severity of the addiction will be determined. The patient will be given a lot of fluids, a requirement when going through any withdrawal. The detox center has medical personnel that can lessen the withdrawal symptoms, which if left unattended can be fatal.
In the detox facility vitamins and minerals will have to be administered in the most effective way. The body has gone too long without the proper nourishment. A good diet which has been neglected due to the alcohol intake will be a major part of the recovery. Too many factors are variable, and a definitive length of stay for the alcohol abuser at the detox center cannot be stated.
